I am so happy! :D Last semester, in my first semester of doing Primary Education, I had to complete a subject that was called 'Foundations of Language and Literacies'. Now, you would think that doing literacies, which is basically English, would be easy. I thought that too, at the beginning of the semester. But it turned out to be harder than I thought it would be... mainly because I didn't keep up with the readings and didn't do a whole lot of study outside of the class (when I wasn't busy with my assignments for that class, that is). So when it came time to do the second assignment, which was worth 50% of the grade, I kind of didn't understand as much of it as I should have. For that particular assignment, we had to analyse two different transcripts and how they showed different forms of explicit teaching - such as using leading questions (otherwise known as 'prepare' questions, for this class), how certain parts of the scripts showed areas of learning (the person/teacher asking questions, showing the child(ren) how to do something or wanting more detail about a book or something similar. Then maybe how another section showed areas of schooling - where it was just the teacher talking a majority of the time and there were no areas of explicit teaching being shown... confused?? Yeahh, so was I (don't worry if you are actually confused. I didn't mean to explain it so you could understand). When I got my results back at the end of the semester, for this particular class, I got a mark indicating that I hadn't received enough marks to pass, but I'd also got enough marks to not fail. So I had to do a supplementary assignment. That assignment was almost just as bad as the original, but after I did a bit of reading, I started to understand what I was supposed to do. I had to analyse another transcript, but write in all the analysis myself (for the original assignment, that was already done). There was a table to fill out for the analysis and then for the second part of the assignment, I had to answer some questions, relating back to that analysis. I managed to answer all of the questions, but I think I was slightly under the world limit. In the end, I decided to just give up and submit it, as it was already an hour late (not that the time frame really mattered.. I'd just had enough). So for the next week, I was kind of freaking out, wondering whether I'd put enough information in, if what I had written was what I was supposed to write. I had been hoping I had passed this assignment, otherwise I would have to do that subject all over again. Well today, earlier this afternoon, I got an email to say that I had passed! Ahhhhhh, I'm so happy! It also had my marked assignment attached and while looking through that, there were still some things I wrote incorrectly or didn't add enough information. But I still passed! That means I won't have to do that particular subject ever again during my studies! Although I'm pretty sure I'll have to do at least one more Literacies subject before I graduate. But oh well, that's down the track. I don't have to worry about that for now. Just gotta focus on this semester, focus on getting the readings done and getting my assignments done on time. |
