From that, we had to come up with a circuit activity using any of the materials/resources the teacher had with her. What we came up with was, using cones and a hula hoop, we set the cones out in a line, equally spaced and we then had to throw the hula hoop to a particular cone (choose one of the four) and then we had to “gallop” to the hoop, pick it up and gallop back to the start. Then the next person would have a go. After everyone came up with something, we went around the room and showed the class our activity. Then the teacher got us to go in a circuit around the whole room, trying out each activity for 40 seconds. Once we got to the last activity just before our own, the teacher told us we could then change what the original group had set up so that each team member was always moving within that activity.
Once each group had changed the activity, we went around again, trying out each one for 30 seconds this time. I was tired afterwards, as I haven’t done that much exercise in a few months. But I also had fun, surprisingly, trying out each activity and knowing I could get through them easily, even if it included things like jumping over things or using skipping ropes.
Then after that class, I met up with my team members for a group assignment. When the teacher told us we were doing a group assignment, I thought ‘oh no! I hate group assignments!’ It’s especially harder for me as I can be quite shy and not so good with talking to people I don’t know. But despite being the only guy in my group, I actually really like my group. They’re really easy to get along with and seem to really want to work at doing well. Our assignment has to be based around a philosophical question regarding education, which didn’t seem like it would be easy at first. But once we got talking about the education system and how it works and what could be done to improve it and whatnot, I started to realise that maybe it wouldn’t be so hard. Also, one of our members is originally from Ireland, so having her perspective on the education system over there compared to here in Australia also really helped us come up with our question. We then set tasks to each of us for this week, to research different theorists and how they might relate to our question. The next time we meet up will be next Tuesday and hopefully by then, we’ll have lots of information we can share between us to help start answering our question.
I’m actually somewhat excited for this class, as I have really good team members for the assignment, but also because the subject is based on the philosophy of teaching and education. So during the lectures, there have been discussions about philosophical questions and it’s been really interesting. I like deep discussions. Also, I know there are others that are struggling to understand what is going on and what is being said, so it’s nice to be able to have that mindset over them. As mean as that may sound.
Anyway, Wednesday and the next couple of days will be in the next post. So stay tuned! Also, I’m sorry that this post is so long. I tend to write in detail.
